November 2015 - April 2016

Boys and girls of all skill levels, grades 1-8, are encouraged to participate in intramural play, weekday evenings at the Hooker School gym on Whitney Avenue, to wear sneakers and to bring their own basketballs (with names printed on them) if possible.

There will be Season Kickoff Clinics where your child can register for the coming season, have fun, and learn some basketball basics:

Grades 1-2: Monday, Nov. 16th, 5:30-6:45 p.m.

Grades 3-4: Monday, Nov. 16th, 6:45-8 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 20th, 5:30-7 p.m.

Grades 5-6: Tuesday, Nov. 17th, 5:30-7 p.m.; Thurs., Nov. 19th, 5:30-7 p.m.

Grades 7-8: Wednesday, Nov. 18th, 5:30-7 p.m.

(Kindergartners may play Saturdays 9-10:30 a.m. at J. Martinez School, starting Dec. 5; see http://www.cityofnewhaven.com/Parks/news/media/2015BBallLeagues.pdf .)

Regular Schedule for practices, intramurals, and eventually games (usually at other schools) will begin the week of Nov. 30 (on days when school is canceled, these sessions will also be canceled):

Grades 1-2: Mondays, 5:30-6:45 p.m.

Grades 3-4: Mondays, 6:45-8 p.m.; Fridays, approximately 5:30 p.m. (game night)

Grades 5-6: Tuesdays, 5:30-7 p.m.; Thursdays, approx. 5:30 p.m. (game night)

Grades 7-8: Wednesdays, 5:30-7 p.m.; Fridays, approx. 5:30 p.m. (game night)

Register by November 20 (please use the attached registration/medical release forms, or register at http://www.gowhba.org/ ). Cost: $35, online or by check.  Each player receives a T-shirt and is invited to participate in a season-ending awards/pizza party.

Tryouts for competitive Travel Teams will be held the week of November 30, when practices officially begin. For more information, email questions to:

Many thanks to various coaches and parents for their service already as volunteers! Parents -- please join us!  Several will be continuing to volunteer as coaches, but additional parents are needed to help out whenever possible.

Travel Team Games Starting

WHBA's 9th Season Begins

The Worthington Hooker Basketball Association (WHBA) begins its 9th season! (November 2014 - March 2015)
We hope your child brought our handout home with the following information attached to necessary forms. If not, please read this entire post:

Register by November 20th, 2014. Cost: $30, pay online or by check. Each player receives a WHBA T-shirt and is invited to participate in our season-ending awards ceremony/pizza party.

Grades 3-4: Thursday, Nov. 13th, 6-7:30 p.m.

Then, Regular Schedule for Practices and Intramural Play will begin the following week. Practice will not be held on when there is no school that day (i.e. snow days, holidays) unless announced otherwise. Travel Team participation (with New Haven City Parks and Rec) will depend on age groups and coaches--details are on the way. For more information, email questions to:

Yale Men's Basketball Youth Day

All Worthington Hooker School families are invited to join the WHBA for a field trip to watch the Yale men's basketball team play vs. Brown University at Payne Whitney Gym (Tower Parkway in New Haven) on Saturday, January 18.  Tickets for children 12 and under will be $2 that day; tickets are $8 for adults.  (Please see details below.)

Several WHBA coaches will arrive around 1:30 (before the 2 p.m. start) to attempt to save a cluster of nearby seats.  Kids are invited to wear their green school t-shirts.  If you have questions or would like to participate in car-pooling, please contact goWHBA@gmail.com or josiahbrown@yahoo.com.

Also, the Worthington Hooker Arpeggios chorus will sing the National Anthem before the game!

Basketball Today Cancelled

Due to the weather, all WHBA activities are cancelled for this evening, January 2nd. That includes Parks & Rec games as well as practices. Stay tuned for more basketball activity updates!
